Great Ideas for Young Adult Programming

  • Programming for Tomorrow's World
    • A powerpoint presentation highlighting cutting edge program for teens that incorporate use of technology for traditional library activities such as book discussion, summer reading programs, and author visits, as well as non-traditional programs such as video game tournaments and cell phone reference.
  • It is usually tricky to reach teen audiences. Recent surveys at the Lawrence Public Library suggest that teens are more interested in learning to make videos and attending movie nights than in doing craft projects. Learning what programs local teens are interested in is a step towards successful programming.
  • KQED's Digital Storytelling Initiative: A Manual for Creating Digital Stories
    • Digital Storytelling is a powerful means for teens to share their world from their point of view. It incorporates writing, audio and video production, and ultimately allows teens to share their work through a site like Youtube. The great thing is, creating a digital story is simple and inexpensive. A digital camera and software that comes with Mac or Windows operating systems are all you need create a story. Digital storytelling workshops are a great opportunity to share, have fun, and learn about multimedia production.
