Online Library Card Registration and e-Card Services
The Contra Costa County Library rolled out its e-Card service on July 1, 2006. This new service allows customers to pre-register for a library card before visiting a library, to gain immediate access to our electronic resources, and to place online holds.
The e-Card is an electronically produced and distributed library card that offers significant, but limited access to our resources. With an e-Card the customer may access electronic resources and place holds in the online catalog remotely. The e-Card is not available to check out materials, use the Books by Mail service, and/or reserve, access, or print from the Library’s Internet workstations. A full-access library card is needed for these services.
Borrowers are entered into the Contra Costa County Library's CARL.Solutions Circulation system with a borrower type of “e-CARD.” This status will remain in place until a customer requests a full-access library card and presents address verification and positive identification, as is the current procedure for the issuance of library cards.
