All entering first year students are enrolled in a section of the [http://www.bgsu.edu/students/bgexperience/page24980.html BGeX course]. While the overarching purpose of the course is to explore values, this is done in discipline specific sections of the course. To support this curriculum, the library has created the [http://www.bgsu.edu/colleges/library/infosrv/cre/ Common Reading Experience Program]. Book discussions are lead in all sections of the course and the author usually visits campus in October to work with the students at a deeper level.
