Talk:Libraries Using IM Reference

From Library Success: A Best Practices Wiki

I created this page to better organize the list of libraries that use IM reference. It is quite a long list and seems to be growing. Crios

Nice work! I'm glad someone took the initiative to better organize it. I wish I'd had the time to do it myself. Meredith 15:04, 3 December 2006 (EST)

  • For Southern Illinois State University (Illinois), they use something called Morris Messenger. It sounds like this might be a browser based chat service. Can anybody confirm this? Should it be included in IM ref? Crios
    • It looks like their library is called Morris and they are just using IM. Meredith 08:59, 4 December 2006 (EST)
      • I called them and I was told that it was browser based chat (like questionpoint). Should this be included in IM Reference? Byt the way... how do you get the date and time after your edit? Do you just type it in or is there somekind of code that you can use? Crios
        • Hmmm... interesting... their site is deceptive then. To get your signature and date stamp, just enter four tildes (~~~~). Meredith 16:54, 4 December 2006 (EST)

Is it really necesary to include the IM client that the libraries are using in house? I don't think it really matters which app they are using, just which IM service. Chris 10:15, 31 January 2007 (EST)

It's not strictly necessary to enter it, though I certainly wouldn't get rid of the information that's already on the wiki. I think it's useful for people to see what clients other libraries are using when they're making their own decisions in implementing an IM reference service. Meredith 11:21, 31 January 2007 (EST)

  • I tried to format the page, but the content disappeared on me. I tried to roll back my edit but it's not working. Can a sysop bring this page back. I viewed an the version previous to my edit and tried to paste the content back but it's not saving the content. It might be a bug as the page is so long...--Cdrocan 10:42, 14 October 2009 (EDT)

I was also editing- I thought that you had bagged your attempt. Sorry, I'll leave the page alone- it does definitley need to be broken out into different pages at this point.Richardjam 10:56, 14 October 2009 (EDT)

Thanks for your work on this, both of you. I agree that the page should be broken down into multiple pages and look forward to seeing the final product! Meredith 12:21, 14 October 2009 (EDT)

Let me know if you have any specific plans. It may be necessary to make separate regional pages driven from a main index page. We can split this up if that would be easier- it would certainly avoid us making overwrites. I follow changes to this talk page via RSS so will follow up on any replies Richardjam 13:13, 14 October 2009 (EDT)
